YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf,Yola
The Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has directed its candidates for the 2027 general elections to conduct issue-based campaigns and avoid criticizing one another, saying unity within the party remains key to its electoral success.
The directive was given during a high-level strategic engagement with the party’s candidates in Yola, where certificates of return were also presented to successful flagbearers.
The meeting, which brought together candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives and House of Assembly, as well as local government party chairmen and secretaries, was aimed at strengthening collaboration between the party leadership and its candidates while establishing a unified strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing the gathering, the PDP Organizing Secretary in the state, Said Bako, described the successful conduct of the party’s pre-primary and primary elections as a major milestone. He said the party’s structures at all levels remained the foundation of electoral victory and urged candidates to work closely with party officials throughout the campaign period.
Bako disclosed that the PDP national leadership would soon harmonize the party’s manifesto, stressing that campaigns would be centered on issues, policies and programmes rather than personal attacks or criticism of political opponents and fellow party members.
“The party at the national level will soon harmonize its manifesto, and the campaign is going to be issues-based,” he said.
The Adamawa State PDP Chairman, Mr. Stephen Heluwa, also called for stronger synergy between candidates and party leadership to ensure effective mobilization of voters ahead of the elections.
He urged party stakeholders to remain united and committed to strengthening the party’s internal structures as campaign activities gather momentum.
Several party officials and candidates also contributed during the session, highlighting measures aimed at promoting internal cohesion, improving coordination and enhancing grassroots mobilization across the state.
In a demonstration of unity, all the candidates pledged loyalty, discipline and commitment to the party. They also promised to respect party structures and work harmoniously with fellow candidates and party leaders to ensure the PDP’s victory in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the meeting, the PDP House of Representatives candidate for the Michika/Madagali Federal Constituency, Prof. Ibrahim Emmanuel Vahyala, expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the engagement.
He said the meeting had strengthened the confidence of the party’s candidates and reaffirmed their collective resolve to provide quality representation to the people.
Prof. Vahyala noted that his more than 25 years of professional experience in geospatial analysis, water management, environmental conservation and data analysis, coupled with his contributions to academic research, had equipped him with the knowledge and capacity to deliver effective, people-oriented representation if elected.
