Vunobolki Dumps APC, Returns to PDP Over “Lack of Democratic Ideals”

YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf,Yola
A political figure, Chief Maurice Vunobolki, has formally defected back to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing a loss of confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and concerns over internal party practices.
Vunobolki announced his resignation from the APC during a press conference in Yola, revealing that he exited the ruling party barely three weeks after joining. According to him, the decision was driven by personal conviction and a commitment to democratic values.
He stated that his short stay within the APC exposed him to internal processes that, in his view, did not align with the principles of fairness, accountability, and justice. “Political parties must reflect the democratic ideals they promote in society,” he said, adding that any deviation from such standards requires decisive action.
The politician emphasized that his departure became inevitable when he perceived those principles to be compromised. Following his resignation, Vunobolki said he undertook wide consultations with his supporters and political associates at both state and national levels.
He noted that the feedback from those engagements was unanimous, with his supporters rejecting what he described as a lack of fairness and transparency within the APC. According to him, the discussions were candid, and his supporters made it clear they would not tolerate injustice or poor accountability.
Announcing his return to the PDP, Vunobolki described the opposition party as more inclusive and committed to internal democracy. He said the platform offers a conducive environment for constructive engagement and freedom of expression.
Vunobolki disclosed that he rejoined the PDP alongside about 3,000 supporters who have already completed their electronic registration. He expressed optimism that more defectors would join in the coming days.
He also commended the leadership of the PDP at both state and national levels for what he termed an enabling and welcoming environment for members.
