NUJ ADAMAWA WARN’S POLITICIANS TO ENGAGE UNION ON ACTIVITIES,VOID MISINFORMATION

YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf,Yola
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, has advice on politicians and other political actors to ensure proper engagement with the Union on all media-related activities.
In a press release jointly signed by Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim, Chairman, and Comrade Kissinger Bukar, Secretary, the Council stated unequivocally that, as a professional body, it will not accept responsibility for any misinformation or misrepresentation arising from political events where it is neither informed nor consulted particularly in instances where press conferences are held outside the NUJ Secretariat without its knowledge.
While recognizing the right of politicians to invite journalists to cover their activities, the Union emphasized that it cannot be held liable for any inaccurate or misleading reports generated from such engagements.
The Council also expressed concern over the growing trend of individuals impersonating journalists at political events, noting that such practices undermine professionalism and erode public trust in the media.
The NUJ Adamawa State Council reiterated its unwavering commitment to promoting journalism that strictly adheres to established ethical standards, professionalism, and the principles of balanced and factual reporting, as enshrined in the Union’s constitution.
