Adamawa Police Intensify Security Operations Over Rising ‘Shilla Boys’ Activities

YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf,Yola
The Adamawa State Police Command has stepped up security operations across Yola, Jimeta, and neighbouring communities following increasing concerns over the activities of suspected “Shilla Boys” in parts of the state capital.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the Command had taken notice of reports circulating on social media alleging a rise in criminal activities linked to the group.
Nguroje assured residents that security deployments and operational strategies across the state remain intact and effective, adding that adequate personnel and tactical assets have been deployed to maintain law and order.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, psc(+), had ordered intensified day and night patrols, stop-and-search operations, and increased surveillance of identified black spots in the affected areas.
According to the statement, Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) have also been directed to strengthen visibility policing, enhance intelligence gathering, and sustain coordinated operations aimed at tracking and arresting criminal elements terrorising residents.
The statement further revealed that the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), alongside other tactical teams, had been mandated to intensify intelligence-driven raids on criminal hideouts and strengthen community policing efforts to restore public confidence and improve security.
“The ongoing operations are specifically targeted at identifying, arresting, and prosecuting offenders responsible for acts of violence, robbery, and public disturbance,” the statement said.
The Police Command warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
Residents were also urged to remain calm, avoid spreading panic, and continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information through the nearest police station or designated emergency lines.
