Six Killed in Adamawa Crash Involving Military Vehicle, Four Victims Identified as NYSC Members

Six persons, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), lost their lives in a tragic road accident involving a military gun truck and a commercial Hummer bus along the Narehi axis of the Girei–Song Road in Adamawa State on Wednesday.
The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed that the accident occurred at about 1:50 p.m. when the military vehicle, travelling from Gombi to Yola, collided head-on with the commercial bus conveying passengers from Yola to Mubi.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the impact of the collision caused the commercial bus to overturn and burst into flames, trapping all five passengers on board.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the passengers were burnt beyond recognition. The police, however, said initial identification efforts showed that four of the victims were serving NYSC members posted to Adamawa State.
Two of the deceased corps members were identified as Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to ascertain the identities of the remaining victims and notify their families.
The Command also confirmed that a military personnel attached to the gun truck died in the accident, bringing the total number of fatalities to six.
Emergency responders, including police officers, were deployed to the scene to carry out rescue and recovery operations. The bodies of the deceased were later evacuated to the Specialist Hospital, Yola.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, Kabir Umar Hassan, expressed condolences to the families of the victims, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the NYSC and all those affected by the tragedy.
He described the loss as painful and assured the public that a thorough investigation had been launched to determine the cause of the crash.The police said further details would be made available as investigations progress.
