NEDC Distributes Food Items to Vulnerable Households in Adamawa

YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf,Yola
The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed food items to orphans and vulnerable households in Adamawa State as part of efforts to support communities facing economic hardship.
Speaking during the distribution exercise held on Thursday in Yola, the Commission’s Head of Resettlements and Early Recovery, Mr. Lawan Hamidu, said the intervention aligns with the agency’s mandate of promoting welfare and stabilizing communities across the North-East.
He explained that the initiative is a routine humanitarian response carried out whenever the Commission identifies pressing needs within society.
“This is part of the routine exercise we carry out whenever we notice there are some problems in the society. We set aside a bit of food items to distribute to vulnerable persons and individuals,” Hamidu said.
He added that the intervention is aimed at cushioning the effects of prevailing economic and social challenges, in line with the Commission’s broader recovery and support mandate.
Hamidu also called on wealthy individuals and organisations to emulate such interventions, noting that supporting vulnerable groups contributes to peace and stability in society.
Also speaking, the NEDC Adamawa Coordinator, Mr. Khalifa Lawan, disclosed that over 150 organisations were targeted to benefit from the food distribution exercise.
He said the items distributed include rice, spaghetti, and cooking oil, and urged the leadership of beneficiary organisations to ensure equitable distribution to their members.
In separate remarks, representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Muslim Council of Nigeria in Adamawa state, Rev. Victor Saje and Malam Ismail Modibbo, commended the initiative.
They expressed appreciation for the gesture and assured that the items would be distributed to intended beneficiaries across the state’s 21 local government areas.
