The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adamawa Sector Command, in collaboration with the Adamawa State Bicycle Club, on Wednesday commemorated the 8th United Nations World Bicycle Day with a cycling rally and public awareness campaign aimed at promoting cycling as a sustainable and healthy means of transportation.
The event, held under the theme, “Boosting Urban Life with the Bicycle,” began with a cycling rally led by the Adamawa Sector Commander, Ibrahim A. Sadiq.
The rally featured members of the Adamawa State Bicycle Club and FRSC personnel who cycled through major roads within the Jimeta/Yola metropolis, drawing public attention to the benefits of cycling for personal health, environmental sustainability, and improved urban mobility.
Following the rally, participants embarked on an advocacy visit to Alfarma Motor Park, where they engaged transport operators, drivers, cyclists, and members of the public on the significance of World Bicycle Day and the growing importance of bicycles in modern urban transportation.
Addressing stakeholders during the sensitization exercise, the Sector Commander highlighted the relevance of the 2026 theme, noting that bicycles contribute significantly to reducing traffic congestion, lowering carbon emissions, improving public health, and enhancing accessibility within urban communities.
He also emphasized the need for mutual respect among all categories of road users, including motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. The public was encouraged to comply with traffic regulations, adopt safe road-sharing practices, and ensure the use of protective gear while cycling.
Ibrahim A. Sadiq commended the Adamawa State Bicycle Club for its continued partnership and commitment to promoting a safe cycling culture across the state. He reaffirmed the FRSC’s dedication to supporting initiatives that foster safer roads and sustainable transportation systems.
The event concluded peacefully and recorded active participation from cyclists, FRSC personnel, transport stakeholders, and members of the public.
