Salihu, a former APC National Vice Chairman (North-East), secured a landslide victory after polling 147,219 votes to clinch the party’s senatorial ticket ahead of eight other aspirants.
According to the results announced after the exercise, Saidu Hayatu Galadima came second with 32,436 votes, while Abdulhamid Abbati garnered 14,833 votes. Hafsatu Ibrahim Modibbo polled 9,679 votes, Aishatu Aliyu received 6,179 votes, and Umar Buba Bindi secured 3,930 votes.
Other contestants included Rabi Andrew, who scored 2,620 votes; Aminu Iya Abbas with 2,182 votes; and Abdulazeez Murtala Nyako, who polled 1,372 votes.
Speaking shortly after his declaration as winner, Salihu expressed appreciation to party members, supporters, and his campaign organisation, “Kowa Na Mu Ne,” for their support and commitment throughout the primary process.
He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing what he described as effective leadership and creating an enabling atmosphere for a peaceful and transparent primary election.
Salihu further thanked the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for ensuring peace and stability in the state during the exercise.
The APC chieftain noted that although he had initially sought the party’s governorship ticket in Adamawa State, he later stepped down in support of the party’s governorship candidate, Ahmed Galadima, in the interest of party unity.
He added that his decision to contest for the senatorial seat was also driven by his commitment to strengthening the APC and promoting unity within the party ahead of the general elections.
