The Acting Commander, Sector 4 Operation Hadin Kai and Commander, 23 Brigade, Brigadier General Amechi Agwu, has assured the Federal Character Commission (FCC) of transparency, equity, justice and fairness in the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment exercise taking place at Gibson Jalo Cantonment, Yola.
Brigadier General Agwu gave the assurance on Monday while receiving the Federal Commissioner representing Adamawa State on the Board of the Federal Character Commission, Chief Bema Madayi, during a courtesy visit to the Headquarters of 23 Brigade in Yola.
Speaking during the visit, the brigade commander emphasized that the Nigerian Army has a long-standing reputation for fairness and equal opportunity, noting that these principles would continue to guide all activities of the formation, particularly the ongoing recruitment exercise.
He stated that all local government areas in Adamawa State would be accorded equal opportunities during the exercise, while maintaining that the Army would not compromise its established standards regarding medical fitness and other recruitment criteria.
Brigadier General Agwu also expressed appreciation to the Federal Commissioner for the visit, describing it as a significant engagement and one of the first of its kind in recent times.
Earlier, Chief Madayi commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering commitment to the defence of Nigeria and its sustained efforts in maintaining peace and security across the country.
She acknowledged the sacrifices and critical roles played by the Army in preserving the nation’s unity, stability and sovereignty, while also praising the conduct of the ongoing recruitment exercise in Yola.
According to her, the Federal Character Commission remains committed to strengthening cooperation and collaboration with the Nigerian Army to ensure fairness and inclusiveness in federal recruitment processes.
Chief Madayi explained that her visit was part of her statutory responsibility as the Federal Commissioner representing Adamawa State to monitor the recruitment exercise and ensure compliance with the principles of equity, fairness and justice, which form the core mandate of the Commission.
She also expressed gratitude to the leadership of Sector 4 Operation Hadin Kai and 23 Brigade for the warm reception accorded to her and members of her entourage.
