YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf,Yola
The Electoral Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) overseeing the House of Representatives primary elections in Adamawa State has pledged to conduct a peaceful, transparent, and credible exercise ahead of the party primaries scheduled across the state.
The committee chairman, Ahmad Yushau, gave the assurance on Saturday while addressing journalists at the APC State Secretariat in Yola.
He said the committee was fully prepared to conduct the exercise in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act, and the APC constitution and electoral guidelines.
Yushau explained that all aspirants who successfully passed the party’s screening process would be given equal opportunity and a level playing field during the primaries. He warned that the committee would not tolerate intimidation, discrimination, or any form of unfair treatment against aspirants, stressing that internal democracy remains essential to strengthening political parties and sustaining democratic governance in Nigeria.
According to him, the credibility of the primary election process would play a major role in determining the APC’s success in future elections, adding that the committee was committed to ensuring that delegates and party members freely choose their preferred candidates without interference.
He also urged delegates and party faithful to vote according to their conscience and in the best interest of democracy and the development of Adamawa State.
The chairman appealed to aspirants and their supporters to maintain peace and avoid actions capable of disrupting the exercise before, during, and after the primaries.
Yushau further commended security agencies, party officials, and other stakeholders for their cooperation toward ensuring a peaceful process across the state.
Also speaking at the briefing, the APC State Secretary, Mustafa Atiku Ribadu, formally introduced members of the committee and announced that results of the House of Representatives primary elections would be declared at the official collation centre located within the Government House, Yola.
The exercise is expected to be closely watched across the state as the ruling party seeks to strengthen internal cohesion ahead of future elections.
