YOLA —By Ojoma Yusuf, Yola
As the world commemorates National Safe Motherhood Day, the Adamawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with non-governmental organizations and development partners to enhance maternal and child health across the state.
The announcement was made during a press briefing held at the Ministry of Health and Human Services in Yola. Representing the Commissioner for Health and Human Capital Development, Permanent Secretary Zirra Babunani emphasized the state’s ongoing efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage and meet the Sustainable Development Goal 3, which focuses on good health and well-being.
“Every mother matters, every birth counts, and every life is precious,” Babunani stated, underlining the importance of safe pregnancies, proper postnatal care, and community-based health interventions.
He commended the efforts of The Challenge Initiative (TCI) and the Adamawa Family Planning Media Advocacy Group for their work in raising awareness about the importance of family planning and child spacing as tools for safe motherhood.
Babunani also praised Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for creating a supportive environment that enables healthcare programs and services to thrive. He acknowledged the dedication of healthcare workers, including midwives, doctors, community health workers, and traditional leaders, for their roles in promoting maternal and child health across the state.
The press briefing concluded with a call for continued collaboration between government, NGOs, and communities to ensure that safe motherhood becomes a reality for every woman in Adamawa.
